The revelation the gunman in the deadly mass shooting at Michigan State University last night was a black male angered people on social media, leading some to post photos of a random white male to mislead the public. Many said the campus police were also being racist in releasing suspect info that described the gunman as a "Black male, shorter in stature" when he was still on the run.

Jon Cooper, a Democrat political operative and influencer, blasted to his 1.2 million followers photos of a random white man and his purported name, "Lynn Dee Walker."
"Earlier reports were that they were looking for a young man who was 'possibly Black,'" Cooper wrote. Cooper is a former six-term Suffolk County, N.Y. legislator. He later deleted the tweet.
